DESCRIPTION:Water Tower Fine Wines Tasting: Two more Italian Values & a 10 Year Tawny Port Closeout! \n  \n \nFor the next couple of weeks our featured wines will be a couple of fun Italian reds and a great dessert wine (people have been asking!). \n\nOne of the Italians is an Aglianico from Campania in south central Italy. This is a lesser known bold and full-bodied red that is great with food but can be enjoyed on its own as well. \n\nWe will also offer a Ripasso from Veneto in Northeastern Italy. This style of wine is sometimes referred to as a baby Amarone since it is made by re-passing Valpolicella wine through the crush skins used to make Amarone\, giving the Valpolicella richer\, more full bodied flavor. \n\nFinally\, we will offer for the first time as a feature in our wine stations–a dessert wine (which I love). We will offer a slightly drier style 10-year Tawny Port. All these wines are nicely discounted and would be great for the transition to cooler fall temperatures. DESCRIPTION:Featured Wines from Water Tower Fine Wines: Taste a Blast from the past; Gaja!\n\n\n\n  \n This week we will offer two wines from Gaja\, one that is no longer available for sale\, but great to sample and another that we still have a few bottles of but may not last. Gaja is one of those iconic producers in Piedmont. \nGaja’s story began in 1859\, when Giovanni Gaja started producing Barbaresco. Since then\, five generations of Gajas have been producing wines in Piedmont’s Langhe hills\, Giovanni’s son\, Angelo (grandfather of today’s Angelo Gaja)\, was blessed with ambition and vision. \nClotilde Rey\, whom he married in 1905\, inspired him to establish the tradition to which the Gajas have adhered ever since total dedication to uncompromising quality. Angelo Gaja\, joined the Winery in 1961 and combined his respect for the traditions of the Langhe with bold innovations in the vineyards and the cellars. \nToday\, Angelo along with his family\, have been continuing a family tradition that has never stopped since 1859. The Gaja Winery owns 96ha (240 acres) of vineyards in the Barbaresco district – Barbaresco and Treiso – and the Barolo district – Serralunga d’Alba and La Morra. In 1994\, Gaja acquired their first wine estate in Tuscany\, Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino (27ha) of vineyards and Ca’ Marcanda\, located in the Bolgheri district in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. The title “Godfather of Italian Wines” is very common when you Google the word “Gaja”. \nThe two wines we will offer this week represent the value offerings from Gaja\, yet still have all of the quality of the more expensive offerings.
