The First Signs of Spring
We wait for it every year: when the Champagne bottles start to emerge from the snow, we know spring is right around the corner.

Wine + Cheese
Picnic season is right around the corner. Take a moveable feast outside utilizing some of our suggestions. Although many traditionally pair cheeses with red wines, whites also  complement a variety of cheeses incredibly well.
Bleu (drizzled with honey) + Riesling
The tang of the bleu cheese combined with the sweetness of honey pairs exceptionally well with on off-dry or slightly sweet riesling
Haloumi + Xinomavro
The saline aspects of the wine pair well with the saltiness of the cheese

Smoked Gouda + Syrah

The bacon fat/smoky aspects pair well with the rich, smoky flavors of the smoked gouda.

Manchego + Sherry

The intense flavor of manchego will suit the dry almond notes of a drier-style sherry

White Cheddar + Red Blend

The tangy notes of the cheddar complement the rich fruit flavors in the wine.

Riesling’s Birthday is March 13
We love riesling at Water Tower Fine Wines! We have more than 60 to choose from that are priced from $10 to $75 or more that range from very dry to quite sweet.

The best part about riesling is that you can get some of the most sophisticated and rare examples for substantially less than with virtually any other varietal.

If you wanted to purchase the pinnacle of Bordeaux, you would be looking at spending thousands of dollars. If you want to purchase a top-flight Napa Cabernet, you are going to spend thousands.  However, if you want one of the most sophisticated Rieslings, you might be hard-pressed to spend much over $500.

Furthermore, rieslings can be really food friendly.   For instance, if you like spicy food (think Indian or Thai), there is no better pairing than an off-dry Riesling. I would be happy to help anyone find a great riesling at whatever price suits you!

First “Real” Job
Give wine to celebrate a first job or stock a cellar.

Promotion or a Heartfelt “Atta Boy”
Receiving a well-earned tribute for hard work should be celebrated, whether it’s a recognized advancement, an authentic compliment or simply fixing the copier un-aided. Reward someone for outstanding accomplishments!

Tying the Knot
From the first celebratory glass of bubbles to building a collection for the new couple, there are many ways to celebrate with wine.  We are the only wine shop of its kind to offer this unique and impressive array of services.
Please see our Tying the Knot page for more information.

Birth of a Child
Seeking a wine with a vintage that is the same as the baby’s birth year?  Please keep in mind you will need to purchase a bottle a minimum of 2-4 years after the birth to obtain wine; once available, try a big red, vintage port, or a great Bordeaux from the birth year.  This wine can then be shared 21 years later.

Graduation
Wine is such a festive, grown-up way to mark this transition.

Anniversaries
Anniversaries should not be relegated to just wedding dates.  Celebrate the adoption of a pet, the day a skill was mastered, or whatever is special by setting this time aside to revel with a good bottle of wine.

The Perfect Meal
Have you finally perfected duck confit or beef Wellington?  Stock your cellar with a bottle or two that matches your gastronomical prowess.

Finding “The One”
So, you’ve finally found your perfect match.  Buy a bottle now to present to your lovely partner at a big moment in your relationship (engagement, anniversary, wedding), an endearing surprise to mark the moment when you fell in love.

Special Memory or Event
Recollect a special place in your personal history with wine that transports you back to a wonderful time. Loved your trip to Napa, Burgundy, Madeira or Washington State?  Cycled across Spain?  Learned to scuba dive in Australia?  What better way to reminisce than with wine that hails from that region?

Dreaming of a place you’d like to visit?  A bottle from the area along with the Travel Channel is a nice pairing.

Job Transitions
Retiring or simply leaving a job for greener pastures? This transition needs to be celebrated with an equally grand wine.

Trying times
Dark times will inevitably come.  The best way to hold on to hope is to find some way to rejoice in the midst of trying times.  During disconcerting times, a shift in perspective may be what is needed.  Keep some special “celebratory” wines with personal meaning on hand for you or others.
